PLAYER RATINGS - MANCHESTER CITY 4-1 IPSWICH TOWN

Manchester City recorded a victory against newly promoted Ipswich Town in their first Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium, thanks largely to a hattrick from talisman Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian striker bagged a treble, with a Kevin de Bruyne goal in between Haaland's first and second goal, as a response to Ipswich's early opener thanks to new signing Sammie Szmodics.

This was Haaland's tenth Manchester City hattrick in just 101 games, in a match where the likes of De Bruyne, Savinho, Rico Lewis, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Dias all performed well too.

Here are the player ratings from the comfortable victory against the Tractor Boys:

Ederson - 6.5/10 - Very little to do, but arguably could've done more to prevent the Ipswich goal as it squirmed under his body.

Lewis - 8.5/10 - Brilliant once again from the 19 year old, who was completely unfazed by Ipswich's rough treatment of him, going on to have a brilliant game again at right back to make it his spot to lose.

Akanji - 6.5/10 - Should probably have at least tried a bot harder to get back and clear Ipswich's opener off the line, but was otherwise solid throughout.

Dias - 7.5/10 - Really good performance from Dias, as he got many touches of the ball in good areas and helped City build up well.

Gvardiol - 7/10 - Solid at left back defensively and offered an attacking threat going forwards.

Kovacic - 7.5/10 - Controlled the midfield and looked physically and mentally sharper than anyone else before being replaced early in the second half with what is hopefully a minor injury.

Bernardo - 7.5/10 - Made a few runs into the penalty area in the right channel and buzzed around the pitch collecting the ball and trying to make things happen for City.

De Bruyne - 8/10 - Fairly quiet other than a well taken goal after seizing upon a mistake and assisting Haaland with an incisive through ball a few minutes later.

Savinho - 8/10 - Really good in the first half especially, winning the penalty and tackling Aro Muric for De Bruyne's goal. The comparisons to Riyad Mahrez are apparent, but he is in fact a more complete layer with his equal comfort in cutting inside and taking his man on down the line.

Haaland - 10/10 - Flawless strikers performance from Haaland, with incredible finishes for his second and third goals on top of a performance where he was a menace for the entire 90 minutes.

Doku - 7/10 - Quieter than Savinho on the other flank, but still looked a threat on the left and was unfortunate to not get an assist for Lewis.

Bench:

Stones - 6/10 - Looked slightly off the pace and out of his depth as an out and out midfielder, but grew more into the game the more time he spent on the pitch.

Grealish - 6/10 - Fairly slow with the ball and lacked attacking threat and aggression, but defended much better than Doku and did his job well in keeping the ball.

Gundogan - 7/10 - In his much awaited return, Gundogan was as tidy and composed on the ball as ever. It is brilliant to have him back in a sky blue shirt again.

Nunes - Not enough time to rank.

McAtee - Not enough time to rank.
