Manchester City kicked off their season with a 2-0 victory against Enzo Maresca's Chelsea, impressing even without Rodri.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic were enough for City to claim the three points in an excellent overall performance.

Here are the player ratings from the victory at Stamford Bridge:

Ederson - 6.5/10 - Distribution a bit sloppy and made a right mess of Cole Palmer's first half shot that spilled into the offside Nicolas Jackson's feet, but made a good save from the Senegalese forward's effort at 1-0 to make amends.

Lewis - 9/10 - One of the best performances of his career, Lewis was magnificent on the right of City's back four, doing his defensive duties with no fuss whilst passing and keeping the ball excellently in tight spaces.

Akanji - 7/10 - Effective when aggressively stepping forward and engaging with Jackson when he dropped deep.

Dias - 7/10 - Went about his business quietly but effectively, as he led the backline well and was heavily involved in the build up.

Gvardiol - 7/10 - A bit sloppy with the ball but very solid overall and much improved defensively from the Community Shield.

Kovacic - 9/10 - Simply remarkable. His best game in a City shirt by a long way, where he proved to his former side that they'd be a much better team with him in the midfield.

Bernardo - 8.5/10 - Ran his socks off and helped Kovacic from a defensive perspective, whilst also getting forward and linking up with Lewis and Savinho on the right hand side in the first half.

De Bruyne - 7/10 - Reasonably quiet, but his presence on the pitch alone was a danger for Chelsea. Good for him to get 90 minutes under his belt.

Savinho - 8/10 - A really bright opening 45 minutes from Savinho before being replaced with a minor injury at the break. Many City fans - myself included - are looking forward to see what he may bring during his time at the club.

Haaland - 7.5/10 - Back amongst the goals again with a brilliantly taken effort, it was a good striker's performance form Haaland, capped off with a goal.

Doku - 6.5/10 - Started the match poorly on the right, but grew into the game and was unfortunate not to score late on.

Substitutes: Foden - 6.5/10 - Fairly quiet out wide on the right wing, but played his part both defensively and in keeping the ball in the second half.
